SANDRA CRNKO, MSC

PhD Candidate
Circadian rhythms | 3D cell culture systems | Cardiac fibrosis

My research focus is on the elucidation of the role of circadian rhythms in cardiovascular disease, and mainly heart failure (HF). In order to achieve this goal, my work has developing two-fold. On the one side, I work closely with the clinicians, by utilizing HF patients’ samples obtained throughout the 24-hour period. On the other side, I have been investigating underlying circadian changes and mechanisms of the disease by using 3D in vitro systems. For the work on the latter, I am mostly focusing on the personalized approach, using human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts.
